  • Jim Lewis

    Founder and President

Jim’s family was in the tree nursery business since before he was born. His fist job was working in the fields at his family’s nursery in Salem, which his grandfather started in the 1950s and has grown to become one of the biggest tree seedling propagation nurseries in the nation today.

    Jim Lewis

    Founder and President

Jim’s family was in the tree nursery business since before he was born. His fist job was working in the fields at his family’s nursery in Salem, which his grandfather started in the 1950s and has grown to become one of the biggest tree seedling propagation nurseries in the nation today.

“Everyone in the family worked at that nursery at one time or another. My father, all of my uncles, my cousins…”, Jim explains, “And as nursery owners, we were always being asked to do landscaping work. So all of the men in my family had landscaping businesses at one time or another. You would think that would mean landscaping would be a natural next step. “To the contrary,” explains Jim, “I was always the grunt laborer. I couldn’t wait to get out of that business and do anything but that. So I went to Oregon State to get a degree in business. I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I knew I wanted to be a businessman, not work in the dirt.”

But fate has a funny way of coming around sometimes. After college the job at the bank didn’t turn out to be as glamorous as it sounded. And climbing the corporate ladder was taking longer than expected. So after a few years Jim abruptly quit his job and just started up a small lawn care business, mowing lawns for people, until he could find a better job.

To his surprise, that small lawn care business grew quickly and within a few years Jim learned his dreams of being a businessman could be realized with this business and could maybe even be morerewarding than any corporate job he had imagined.

Over the years, his expertise in the field has lead to more than just success at his growing company. Jim has been a speaker at a national industry conference, authored several articles in industry magazines, a business mentor to over a dozen smaller landscape companies throughout the nation, and community volunteer/leader.

Today, Jim still runs and works in the company daily. He is involved with all aspects of operations. He and his wife live in the Sexton Mountain area of Beaverton with their 3 children. On his days off you will probably find him either traveling, at car shows, going to church, singing or just spending time with friends and family.

Cassidy has had a wide array of occupations over the years, giving him quite a lot of life experience for his age. He maintained the landscape and handled landscape enhancements for a local tennis club in the Portland area for many years.

Cassidy is also a classically trained chef (Portland Culinary Institute) and worked as chef at many fine restaurants in the Northwest for many years – even owning his own successful restaurant and catering business in Seattle – before deciding the evening and weekend hours it required weren’t the lifestyle he wanted.

Cassidy also worked for a vineyard in Washington for several years. First leading their organic land care team and was in charge of their viticulture program.  Later he progressed to being assistant wine-maker, blender and bottler.

After this, Cassidy was also co-owner and Operations Manager of a ranch and farm in the Portland area, where he was the director of all farm operations, production manager, and business relationship manager with stake-holders.

Most recently, Cassidy was the owner of VP Backflow – a backflow testing service in the Portland area. But closed that business when he started working for our company. We’re so happy to have him working for us. He brings a lot of experience to our company and has been doing a great job working with our customers and managing our crews. We envision a long career at our company that will be mutually beneficial.

We’ve had Jim Lewis come by and help us with the yards at two homes over 13 years now. Both involved deconstruction and renovation. We usually have tentative ideas that Jim helps us flesh out and improve. Then the crew arrives and magic occurs. We’ve also had Lewis Landscape Services come do the annual maintenance on our irrigation. That saves us headaches and the cost of replacing dead plants next year. The office staff is kind; the crews are great; and for Jim it’s personal. It’s your home and he wants it to be right for you.

I hired Lewis Landscape after receiving a well presented estimate accompanied by recent project photos. The price was fair and the quality met my expectations. My neighbors all commented on the craftsmanship. The paver patio and walkway are now the focal point of my home. Thanks for a job well done.
