Composite is durable and comes in a variety of colors. It’s an eco-friendly option that can last up to 50 years with minimal maintenance. You can choose a color that fits the style of your home’s exterior to create a cohesive look.

Custom Cedar & Hard Wood Decks

Hardwood decks is another good wood option. But the price point of these will be approx. the same as a composite deck. They are extremely durable and have a more natural wood look than composites do. But they will require cleaning and re-applying of hardwood oil every 2-3 years to keep them looking their best and keep the wood from cracking. There is also a concern with tropical hardwoods about the environmental cost. Many of the tropical hardwoods are sourced from areas that are being depleted of their natural resources. Some are more sustainably sourced. But it’s a good idea to do some research on which tropical hardwoods are more sustainably sourced than others as well as understanding the regular maintenance that will be required before making a decision to go forward with this kind of deck.
